High Voltage Substations

The Problem

A 30MW energy from waste site suffered their fourth DNO supply cable failure of the year, putting their contractual obligations to collect and process waste in jeopardy.

Within 12 hours of the request coming in, Pleavin Power provided two specialist HV transformer substations consisting of 400v/11kV step up transformers coupled with HV switches to provide additional points of isolation and control, both coupled to an 11kV RMU, allowing a singular point of connection to the customer’s network by Pleavin Power’s own SAP alongside sites SAP.

The Solution

HV cabling was also provided after being modified by Pleavin Powers trusted HV partner Enerpower to suit the site’s requirements. We worked in partnership with Power Electrics, which provided three synchronised 400v 1250kVA machines, cabling, distribution, and fuel management.Pleavin Power remained on site to assist during the outage and to manage any load transfers. The DNO managed to repair the cable in the evening but due to on-going concerns, the package was left in standby. The site was instructed in the operation and a handover of safety keys was completed to the site SAP. During the following days, the DNO cable failed again, and the system is now supporting the site on a long-term basis until the supply is repaired. Thanks to the key partnerships outlined, the site is still able to meet their contractual requirements.
